Let the Quilting Begin!

Today I finally got started on the actual sewing part of Emma's quilt. When I was up in Michigan back in June I had Melinda help me pick out fabric. I washed it all and then did the second most tedious part- cutting out all the squares of the different color. This is boring, tedious, annoying, makes your back hurt...need I go on? :)

Anyway, I had four yards to cut into 5x5 squares. I have a template, but it still is a pain. When I got to the end and started to brain storm a nice pattern it dawned on me that the yellow fabric just didn't work within the other colors. So I cut up all that for nothing. Maybe I will finish all these baby quilts and use the left overs for my own miss-match quilt. The only thing I am a little worried about is how Tripp and Melinda will feel about one color. At first I thought is was going to be a deep red, but it turns out the paisley pattern is more of a dark magenta/pinkish. It won't go exactly with Emma's bedding, but I still think it's pretty. Besides, the paisley print is the least of it. The majority of the quilt top will be a natural colored fabric and a green and natural plaid. I just finish sewing the rows. Next step (tomorrow) will be to iron the seams of these rows so that I can sew the whole thing together and it will start looking like a quilt top. When that is done I get to see if the dark blue plaid will actually make a good backing and border. Right now I think it might be too dark. With any luck I can get the top done and then take a picture and post it, then take another picture with the back and border added on (not sewn into it yet) and get some opinions from anyone out there. I forgot how nice it is to just sit and sew something like this.

An update on my friend, Clare, and the babies. I picked her up this morning to the good news that at 4:00AM the nurse called to tell Clare that after all the eating (Mary eats like a champ, just never seems to keep it down) from yesterday she FINALLY pooped! A good start! Today I sat with Clare while she fed Mary, which was so sweet to watch. She ate up all the milk in the bottle. Hopefully I will hear from Clare tomorrow that there is more good news. Macy (the one that is doing better) was moved to the regular bassinet and has been doing great. So, thanks for the prayers and please keep them coming. And Clare wanted me to say thank you for her and David and God bless

You changed your format. Did you get tired of the old one? Anyway, I am glad to hear that your friend's babies are doing better. As for the quilt, ask Melinda, she is better at color stuff than I am.

Good news about the babies!! Yay!! Will look forward to hearing more about them and how well they're doing.

Emma's getting a quilt? Neat. I wish I knew how to quilt.

I will post a picture of the quilt top (without the dark blue plaid border and then one with) today or tomorrow. Mom has to lend me her digital camera. As for the babies, I will be calling Clare tonight to see if things are still looking up. I might even have a picture in the near future!
